Le Refuge Altitude 810

55 Grande rue, 73700, Bourg Saint Maurice France

Located right in the center of Bour-St-Maurice, Le Refuge Altitude 810 never fails to impress. Stop by for racallette, fondue or tartiflette. You should make reservation in advance if you are planning to eat here in a large group, or if you are visiting in peak season. The restaurant is quite small, and often fills out around 7pm with the hungry ski crowd coming down from Les Arcs.

Another fabulous family meal at Refuge 810. We booked five days ahead and just squeaked a table for the 19.15 early sitting. My son and I had the tartiflette special with charcuterie, my wife a variation of that with mushroom sauce, and my daughter had onglet de beouf cooked perfectly rare. Very large portions meant we were embarrassed by the dessert menu, so a café and calva helped my digestion instead.

It was splendid Savoie fare, the restaurant staff were very friendly and we also sang “happy birthday” to four different people – each served with a cake and Roman candle – which added to a most convivial atmosphere. Le Refuge 810 is the restaurant gem of Bourg St Maurice!

A notable mention is Chevallier, the bakery in town. A perfect stop for a quick and inexpensive treat and a coffee.

PAUSE Coffee & Kurtos

155 avenue du Stade, 73700, Bourg Saint Maurice France.

Pause Coffee & Kurtos offers a great space to sit in the sun and enjoy a barista style coffee. The owners are lovely and will go out of their way to help you with questions you may have. And the food is fantastic. The lunch menu changes, but it always features cafe favourites such as Bagels, smoothie bowls and avocado toast. The drinks menu is extensive with various barista coffees, herbal teas and hot chocolates available. Like everywhere in France, Pause also offers a reasonable wine list, some festive cocktails and locally brewed beers.

Pause also rent bikes out, so get in touch with them if you fancy a day pending around the French Alps, they will be able to suggest some routes and provide you with everything you need.

Staying in Bourg we popped in for flat white coffees and tried the Kurtos, one with almonds, one with sugar coating. As other reviews mentioned this must be one of the best flat white coffees in the area, nice and strong served with a generous smile. The Kurtos are an interesting Hungarian delicacy and well worth trying. The couple that run this business are enthusiastic and really nice people. We called back after a long walk in the mountains for second helpings and received excellent service and advice about routes and coffee making. Will be calling in each time we pass to the ski resorts in the winter as this enterprise deserves to be a big success and will get our support.

Le Tonneau is the restaurant to go to for its Prix Fix menu of the day

Best Restaurant for lunch specials in Bourg- St- Maurice

Le Tonneau Bourg-St-Maurice

2 avenue du Stade, 73700, Bourg Saint Maurice France

Le Tonneau Bourg-St-Maurice is one of the best restaurants for it’s lunch specials. While it is one of the pricier restaurants in Bourg, the location can’t be beat. If you are lucky enough to be there on a sunny day, I suggest sitting out on the decking and soaking in the sun. It’s lush!

The lunch special is resonably priced and includes a starter and a main. Their bar is fully stoked and usually pumping with tourists on a Saturday ( change over day for Les Arcs holiday makers) It’s an easy place to grab a drink while you wait for your train back to Paris, or the bus back to the airport.

There are often grumblings about the service here- but the staff do speak English and have been helpful every time I have eaten there.

We arrived at Bourg Saint Maurice awaiting a train so we had time to spare. Went across to Le Tonneau, they were very accommodating in assisting us with the menu in English. We were only after a light snack and this was able to be achieved at a minimal expense. It is well located if you are waiting for public transport and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food was freshly prepared and was plentiful for the price. It was a very wet day but there was plenty of places to shelter from the weather. I would recommend this location if you wanted to enjoy a beverage or a snack. Did not partake in a full meal but was certainly full after the entree we had plat du jour a cheese wrap with salad.

Best Restaurant for Asian Fusion Food in Bourg- St- Maurice

Cherry Garden

427 avenue du Stade, 73700, Bourg Saint Maurice France

If you have had enough of eating French food and are looking for something different, head to the Cherry Garden for their extensive Asian Fusion menu. The menu angles towards Thai food the most, but there also hints of Japanese food with gyoza and teriyaki chicken. It has a laid back dining vibe with an indoor area which gets cozy in winter. In the summer months, the garden dining area opens up and is host to live music events.

We went to the Cherry Garden for our wedding anniversary. First thing I’d say is we contacted them by Facebook messenger and they responded really quickly, great service.

The food was great, we have fussy kids so this was a bit of an ask but they were great with the kids.

Ambience is brilliant and the kids could amuse themselves without it feeling like they were disturbing other diners.

Can’t recommend this place enough, loved it!
